Biography
Matthias Maier is a visual artist working between Basel and New York. His practice combines photographic source material with painterly and graphic interventions, resulting in works that explore the tension between representation and abstraction.
Maier develops his work primarily on paper, employing photographic transfer processes alongside acrylic paint, drawing, and structural elements. His images are characterized by controlled disruptions, where recognizable motifs drawn from natural and built environments are reconfigured through reduction, repetition, and spatial shifts.
His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Switzerland and the United States, including Basel and New York City.
