Endless Summer
Basel welcomed me after my return from the mountains with another hot summer week. Still packed with impressions of last week’s hiking tour and a small cold, I started into rather sluggish days.
Between summer and fall
My head was somehow still completely in the mountains and the first days in the city seemed a bit strange to me. Through the days in the snow, I had actually already finished with summer and was overwhelmed by the high temperatures that I found in Basel. Although you notice that the summer is coming to an end. The days have become noticeably shorter. In the morning I do my yoga already in the dark again and in the evening it quickly gets pleasantly cooler. And the blue of the sky looks different than it did in August.
A quiet working week
In contrast to last week, this one was relatively unspectacular and not very active. One of the reasons for this was a slight cold, which accompanied me through the whole week. So I spent the days rather quiet. There was administrative work to do and I was working in the studio. The last painting of the Still Lives is now finished and I also finished the test painting with a different format than the square ones. I usually interrupted the working days in the morning for a coffee by the Rhine before it got too hot. I love the quiet and relaxed feeling by the river and in the city at this time of day.
Time for new ideas
Vacations, or some time away from the usual environment, always make me want to change something and tackle projects that I’ve been putting off for a while. I ordered a new printer and a small fridge for the studio to make it a bit more homely. After all, I do spend a lot of time there.
Flower power
And I surrounded myself with flowers! After my long absence in the summer and due to the heat waves back then, the plants on my balcony had suffered a lot. But now, after a pruning and regular watering, everything is again in beautiful bloom.
In addition, I have placed sunflowers in the studio and in the apartment. I find sunflowers perfect to present the current mood of late summer. I picked the sunflowers in a field where there were other flowers and I got the idea to make a collection of individual flowers in small glass bottles. I think that also looks very pretty and now decorates the entrance area in my apartment.
