So many things that need to be done are piling up right now and the week has been accordingly filled with commitments.
If there’s one thing my work isn’t, it’s monotonous. Due to the different professions I have, the work I have to do is wide-ranging and makes for relatively varied weeks. The downside is that sometimes things from different jobs are urgent and disrupt the planned organization of my time. Unfortunately, due to two burst pipes and a apartment move, property management work is currently taking center stage and I have to put my artistic ambitions on the side.

Personal maintenance
This week I was also paralyzed for a day due to the extraction of a wisdom tooth. It’s not just old houses that need maintenance from time to time, I do too. After two days of physical inactivity, however, I was able to resume my sporting activities and work towards my goal of getting fit for spring.

Spring in my studio shop window
Spring was literally in the air this week. The temperatures felt warm for the first time and especially when the sun was shining, you could already dream of spring. Accordingly, I decorated the window of my studio here in Basel with works that celebrate spring.
The painting Er ist’s (It’s spring) was inspired by the German poem Er ist’s by Eduard Mörike. The poem begins with the words “Spring lets its blue ribbon flutter through the air again”, which inspired me to create the blue ribbon that runs across the picture.
Frühling lässt sein blaues Band
Wieder flattern durch die Lüfte;
Süße, wohlbekannte Düfte
Streifen ahnungsvoll das Land.
Veilchen träumen schon,
Wollen balde kommen.
– Horch, von fern ein leiser Harfenton!
Frühling, ja du bist’s!
Dich hab ich vernommen!
Spring lets its blue ribbon
Flutter in the breeze again;
Sweet, familiar scents
Drift with promise over the land.
Already violets lie dreaming,
Soon to be awakened.
—Listen, from afar the faint sound of a harp!
Spring, it is you!
I can hear you coming!
The lovely poem about spring from Eduard Mörike
Spring Morning, on the other hand, is dedicated to the blackbirds, which have been sweetening my wake-up every morning before sunrise for a few days now. I love this time of singing birds so much, which lasts until the summer solstice in June. For me, the most beautiful months of the year.
The painting Spring hike in the Alps is based on a hike I went on in the Bernese Oberland a few years ago. Although it was already early summer down in the valley, the first spring flowers were just blooming at the top. The young leaves of the alpine lady’s mantle fascinated me with their white edges and later inspired me to create this painting.
Spring for your home
If you are in Basel, you can view and purchase the paintings in my studio at Hammerstrasse 24. Within Switzerland, the pictures can be ordered online via my website Qunstwerk. If you live outside Switzerland and are interested in one of the paintings, please contact me.

Keep calm and read a book
Despite all the construction sites that have opened up everywhere at the moment, I was able to enrich my days with small but fine moments of art and found some time to read in the evenings. It has now become an integral part of my daily routine and I have to say, it’s so good to immerse myself in stories and mentally escape the world before going to sleep. Spending time with friends is also a good balance. That’s why a trip to the Black Forest and dinner were on the agenda on Saturday.
