Little moments of happiness

During another unspectacular work week, I became aware of the little moments of happiness that even mundane days can hold.

There are so many weeks that are simply defined by everyday life. I have written about this many times, because it happens often in my life. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but when writing my weekly review, I always have trouble finding something interesting to report on and to remember. After the past two weeks, during which I visited interesting art exhibitions and gained a lot of inspiration, this week was a gray, monotonous work week with many tasks that found their way onto my weekly list. I always create this list first thing every Monday morning. I then use it to write down daily plans, which I create in a second step to organize my time. Some weeks, I have to use these plans when writing my reviews because otherwise, nothing exciting stuck with me.

Discovering the sparkle in the gray

And yet these unspectacular days were peppered with moments of happiness. You can consciously incorporate them into your life, it doesn’t take much. The last weeks of November are already very dark, and this one started with rain. At first glance, that seems rather unpleasant and makes you want to spend your days in bed. But accepting this mood and consciously living it, does make you feel much better than time wasted in your sheets, trust me. For example, one day, despite the work on my desk, I decided to walk through the city instead of quickly taking my bike to go shopping. In doing so, I noticed new details in the streets, that I had never noticed before, even though I am familiar with them. And looking at the world upside down through puddles is also fun. The last autumn leaves were sparkling in them like the other highlights that you can give yourself on these days.

Spoil yourself a little bit

Every morning for example, I went to my studio with warm tea, lit a candle, put relaxing music on and started to work. And did the same at home in the evening. Tea, candles, relaxing music, and a good book to read. However, at some point, a sunny day will come again. That’s how it was this week. You have to seize that moment as well and get out into the fresh air and light—even if it’s only for half an hour.
