Changing Pages

Here it is – a new breeze in my life. From rainy Basel to sunny and warm New York. Leaving is at the same time a coming home and always feels so good to change perspective.

Sure, the travel day is a bit exhausting. And yet, by now I have my routine in it and know how things work. Before the departure I met a good old friend for coffee in Zurich Airport, which made me very happy, because it’s been years since we last saw each other. So the waiting time passed quite quickly until boarding the aircraft. The flight went fast too and we even arrived in New York half an hour earlier than planned. But the disillusionment followed right after we got off the plane, as I had to spend three full hours in line at immigration. Unbelievable how rejecting one is received in the USA, a shame for this country! But no matter, at the sight of the glittering skyline of Manhattan from the RFK Bridge, the frustration about it was immediately forgotten.

From rainy Switzerland to sunny New York

A bit of indian summer

I was given another late summer week here. My first morning I went right out for a jog in Riverside Park. Having never been here at this time of year, I enjoyed the park in its autumnally outfit and after sitting for so long the day before, the exercise and the run.

Sightseeing

The reason for my visit at this time of year, was the arrival of two good friends who are spending 10 days in the city and in my studio to explore New York. So a few touristy spots are on the agenda during my stay that I normally never consider when I’m here, as I’m too consumed by normal life. We spent the first day together in Central Park and walked through it from north to south. Again, despite the high temperatures, fall was in the air and the park presented itself in a colorful color scheme.

A perfect city day

It is always nice to walk the High Line, which we did on the second day, followed by some shopping in Midtown, before we ended up on a rooftop bar in Nomad. I realize again that for me New York is the most beautiful city in the world. At least the most exciting, interesting and beautiful of the cities I have visited so far. A really great place to live and I would do that if I could much more than I do right now. But I don’t want to complain, it’s nice enough that I can actually come here whenever I want to or whenever I can.

From the High Line to Midtown

Back to gray

On Sunday the weather has changed. Instead of sunny and warm it became rainy wet and dingy cold. Actually the weather you would expect at this time of year. We spent the afternoon at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. A somewhat stifling undertaking that perfectly matched the dreary weather. With all the bad that happens all the time these days and the hardships and worries we have, it’s easy to forget that things weren’t any better in the past. Unfortunately, the world is not a perfect place. In my opinion, it is all the more important to surround yourself with positive and happy energy where you can influence it, to live in a personal environment that is harmonious and gives you strength and joy to make the best of yourself and your life.
