The November moon brought some variety back into my everyday life and another hike.
Even the monotonous days have their highlights. Like the day of the full moon every month, which was this week. And there are always moments in my daily routine that I look forward to. Coffee in the morning, for example. I already get excited about it every evening when I lie in bed. Even in this dark time of year, when dawn is still a long way off when I get up, the morning has its magic. A whole, long day lies ahead of you. You are far too little aware of what a gift it actually is. Even if there are things to do that you don’t want to tackle, there are still moments that make you feel good, even if it’s just the relief you feel once you’ve got the unpleasant things over and done.
On a run at an evening with an almost full moon
Celebrate good times, come on
And then there are certain things you can celebrate to create bright spots that you look forward to. At the moment, that’s tea in the evening for me. I bought myself a small teapot and every evening when I get home, I make myself a pot of tea, which I then drink throughout the evening. This can be enhanced by lighting a candle, listening to relaxing music and putting the phone away. Just be. It’s these rituals that give you stability in turbulent times like these and from which you can draw strength.
The hazy life under the foggy sky
The last hike of the season
So I had all sorts of smaller and larger bright spots this week. Some only reveal themselves when you look back at what you have achieved. The most stressful days in particular feel the best in hindsight. It’s like after a strenuous workout. The torture is worth it in the end and you feel better than if you had avoided it. The weekend then brought a real highlight: perfect hiking weather. At least in parts of Switzerland. Most of the north was covered in fog on Saturday, but we still managed to find a corner where the forecast was for sunshine and there was no snow. So we boarded the train early in the morning and headed through the fog towards eastern Switzerland. Until shortly before our arrival, the landscape passed gray and unfriendly at the window, but then, after the last tunnel, it was suddenly there: the bright blue sky from which the sun was shining. It didn’t warm us up much though – there was a cold wind blowing and the approaching winter can no longer be denied. But there were the colors of nature, doing this job. I always find them particularly intense in November. The last leaves on the trees, the blue of the water, the mountains… absorbing and enjoying everything once again. It will have been the last hike of the season. The coming weekends are planned and a longer stay in New York is just around the corner. But these are all future bright spots that are waiting to enhance life.
