Summer Solstice

My Basel summer is in full swing and this week we reached the longest day of the year. Like every peak, this one is also based on the realization that things are now going downhill again.

At least as far as the length of the days is concerned. Fortunately, the coming weeks will still feel like this one, enriched with more sunshine and heat. But I love June and these days where there is still some light to go on the horizon when you go to sleep and the dawn greets you when you wake up.

Summer fun in Basel

Back to reality

After last week’s ArtBasel, normality has returned to the city. I do what people do in Basel when it’s summer. Swimming on the Rhine, for example. It’s simply wonderful to go into the river after a hot day at work and let yourself drift through the city. Passing all the sights and then coming back to shore at the other end, refreshed and ready to go home.

Not all evenings were so peaceful as to allow swimming in the river. Some thunderstorms provided for cooling of the somewhat different kind and caused more or less damage to the plants on my balcony. Fortunately, however, the hail was spared, so that it was done with cleaning up and putting up the pots afterwards.

Anticipation of The City

The construction work around the Roche site is coming to an end and from the street there is finally a clear view upwards. This always provides a little New York moment when I walk between the towers. Two more weeks to go…

Work in progress

Before I travel to New York at the beginning of July, I would like to finish my Silent Lives project. This week I was able to paint two more pictures for it and I’m more than happy with my progress. The paintings, done in shades of green and brown, show hues that I like to surround myself with. They have something very natural. That was probably also the reason why these objects had appealed to me when I ran across them in various second-hand stores.
