What a difference a day makes
My summer in New York is always a time of extremes. An alternation between the hectic cosmopolitan city, with its impulsive energy and bustling life, on the one hand, and the seclusion of Fire Island on the other: peaceful nature, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, without cars, without stress, just sand, ocean, sky.
The best of both worlds
And sometimes there are days that are filled with both worlds. Waking up in the morning to the sound of the waves, starting the day with a walk barefoot on the beach and then, after breakfast, taking the ferry across the bay to Long Island and from there the train to Penn Station.
Here the culture and heat shock. Arriving home after a 2 1/2 hours journey to first fall exhausted on the couch. Then slowly picking yourself up again, showering, putting on long pants after a long time, then out into the sultriness. Cab, Hudson Yard, The Spiral, 66th floor. Our friend, Angela Workman friend is giving a concert in a club with one of the greatest views over the city. I couldn’t get enough of it.
City as far as the eye can see. In the middle of it all the famous landmarks. From this perspective, all the problems seem tiny and small. The setting sun and evening summer clouds changed the light continuously. The beach was far away when we all had dinner together later and then fell into bed knocked out at some point.
New York is a work of art in and of itself. It’s a masterpiece that shouldn’t make sense, yet somehow it does.

Rather unspectacular the rest
This day was definitely the highlight of this week, which I have otherwise approached rather lazy and sluggish. That’s just the way it has to be and is perfectly fine, after all it’s summer and this somehow also a vacation. Besides of my runs and workouts and some walks and plenty of naps, I still did some work every day though. However exclusively administrative, going through todo lists of the recent weeks. Office stuff, website updates and so on. My art brain is also taking a break, I’m just hovering currently in a state of inspiration, being and absorbing the many impressions I’m confronted with here.
