From the big city to my small bedroom
How quickly everything can change. After starting in New York on Monday, the week came to an end for me in my bed in Basel.
Monday was my last day in New York so I had a somewhat wistful start into the new week, as saying goodbye always makes me a little sad. Many of my commitments are always very far away when I am in New York and of course my partner lives here, so leaving is always a farewell. But as we will see each other again in a little over four weeks, it wasn’t very tragic this time and went smoothly.
A rather restrained welcome
After a good flight, I landed back in Switzerland on Tuesday. It was rainy, gray and cold, just like when I left. I immediately missed the atmosphere of the sunny and somewhat warmer days in New York. Nevertheless, I was happy to be back. The apartment, the more relaxed city, the different food. However, I had barely settled in for a day when I started to feel unwell and on Thursday I began to catch a cold, which took hold of me for the rest of the week. The first two days were dominated by a sore throat and a bit of a cough, then at the weekend I developed a severe cold and I struggled through the days. At least a COVID test was negative, so I’m hopeful that I’ll be fit again quickly next week.
The joys of November
Despite the exhaustion and although it was often raining and windy, I went for an hour’s walk every day. I walked the routes I normally jog to, so at least I got some exercise and fresh air. I noticed once again that I love the light in November and the colors that can be found at this time of year. The restrained, calm atmosphere suits me perfectly and I enjoy coming home and spending cozy evenings by candlelight with quiet music and a cup of tea. I take the cold in my stride and am only bothered by the fact that I can’t smell or taste anything. But I know from experience how wonderful it is when the senses return and the appreciation you have for them.
