The joys of ordinary days

Even ordinary days have little surprises waiting to be discovered and a reminder, that life is what you make it.

This week was another one of those where, at first glance, nothing extraordinary happened that I could write about here. And yet, every single day has been a day of my life, this limited time I have been given to do something with it.

This fact alone is basically something wonderful. You are given time in a place that offers an incredible amount of possibilities and opportunities, but also dangers and obstacles. You are free to do what you want. In the end, you can leave everything behind and go again. You come with nothing, you leave with nothing and everything in between…is what you make it!

Make love your goal

Basically something very simple and yet overwhelming for many. It also took me a while before I was able to experience my life in exactly this way and fully engage with my lifetime. Just as I recognize for myself the basic right to be happy, which every person should have as their goal in life. But being happy doesn’t just happen to you. It takes effort, it’s a way of life. It starts with finding out who you really are, what you really want, what your calling is. Accepting yourself as an individual without comparing yourself to others. Being grounded in yourself. Consciously dealing with feelings, especially negative ones. Accepting them, understanding why you feel the way you do and then letting them go again. Anger, hate and fear, like joy, love and happiness are spontaneous feelings that are triggered in us without us being able to do anything about them. But it is entirely up to us how we deal with them and how long we want to carry them around. Anger and hatred can be cultivated, just as love, happiness and contentment can be celebrated. The decision is up to us.

Rainy November days

Daily little discoveries

So I always try to find something beautiful in these unexcited, gray and dingy days, of which there were a few at the beginning of the week. The way the world is reflected in the puddles on a rainy day or how a color stands out in the midst of the grey, creating a pleasing contrast. Little surprises on the walls of houses, on the sidewalk, in the trees. There is always something to discover.

The colorful arrival of December

Happy (week)end

And the sun always comes back at some point, like this week just in time for the start of December. Sunday lived up to its name and with a visit from a dear friend and a long walk through the city, an ordinary week ended with a happy and contented mood.
