Everyday gray
The colourful past week was followed by days that were gray and marked by everyday life and unforeseen events. At least I was able to finish the preparations for the exhibition.
Right at the beginning of the week, on Monday, a planned short visit to my father turned into an all-day event, as I found him with an inflamed eye. So we spent hours in the waiting room of an ophthalmologist, where we were given an emergency appointment. My daily program was gone and all appointments were postponed by one day.
Some handicraft work
The delay wasn’t too tragic, however, as I had a lot of administrative work on my to-do list and the days were rather unspectacular in terms of the weather, which was monotonous and gray. The only scheduled task I had this week was preparing to send my paintings to New York for an exhibition I’m planning there. The most uncomplicated solution seemed to be to send the pictures separately from the frames and then frame everything on site in New York. To ensure safe transportation, I had wood cut to size and used it to build a transport crate in which I could ship everything safely.
Little walks…
As usual, I was back in Germany with my father on Thursday and then treated myself to a walk on the hills of the neighboring village. A little time out in nature and a few steps in the countryside is good even in the cold and under a gray sky. Especially if I don’t manage to go jogging for a few days. Somehow the days are just too short at the moment. Or maybe I’m just too unmotivated. But such walks work wonders.
…and longer ones
Sunday lived up to its name and brought some cheer to an otherwise gray week. Before I went out to see my dad again, I went for another walk in the afternoon. Or rather on a journey of discovery. In search of new views in familiar surroundings, of colors, of grids, of angles that make the familiar appear in a different light, in a different aesthetic. Such walks always trigger a sense of satisfaction in me, a mood similar to that after a visit to a museum. So even this rather dull week has left a trace of joy in my heart.
