Even a totally unremarkable week brings gifts that enrich the heart.
Looking back, some weeks are without any highlights. Days that have passed without leaving a trace. Days that you will never remember, that are lost in a mishmash of memories in which so much of our lifetime is left behind. This week was one of them.
Moments of happiness in nature…
The awareness of the daily gifts
And yet the week was enriched with beautiful moments and definitely worth living. There was plenty of the little things that make us happy. The progress of the return of the green. A haircut and relaxing on the massage chair while getting my hair washed. The peonies that are back in flower stores everywhere. Meeting up with relatives I haven’t seen for decades, even if it was for an aunt’s funeral. The first asparagus and, as a special highlight, the return of the swifts on April 23. I make a note of it in my calendar every year. At last, the sky is once again full of birds that fly elegantly and quickly overhead and screaming around the dormer windows of my apartment. For the first time this year, getting wet from rain at a reasonably pleasant temperature during a run. And how the city is reflected in the wet streets or how the sun creates exciting light accents through a gap in the clouds.
…and those encountered in the city
It takes so little to be happy
There are countless of these mundane things that enrich our lives on a daily basis. Being able to recognize and appreciate them is a gift that allows us to be happy with very little.
