Caught up in everyday life
Another unexciting week that has come and gone without leaving much of a trace. With everything else that’s going on in the world right now, I have to admit that it’s not the worst thing if everything is still the same at the end of the week as it was at the beginning.
Property Management
I’ve been busy again mainly with the property management work that I still do in addition to my work as an artist. There are weeks when these activities predominate and determine my daily routine. Some things are planned, work that simply has to be done, like preparing utility bills, weeding the front yard, or ordering heating oil for the upcoming winter. But very often emergencies come when tenants have problems or companies have to do something urgent on the building services. Also tenant changes, one of which was coming up this week, are always time intensive and make the days unpredictable.
Frontend Developing
In addition to art and property management, I also serve a few clients as a web developer freelancer and from time to time work becomes necessary in that area as well that I have to perform. This is what happened this week also.
Marketing and Facility Management
All in all, the work is interesting, very varied and there is always a lot to learn. And it simply feels good to be able to cross something off the daily list that you’ve done. However, these activities often prevent me from immersing myself in the art and feeling the appropriate mood I need to work something out. Instead, I spend the rest of the time taking care of other work around the studio and marketing. There is always something to do. The highlight this week was a blind for the shop window, which I wanted to have for a long time, that I ordered, received and installed. Now I can protect my pictures that I display in the shop window from direct sunlight in summer. During the winter months, the sun is much too low for that, but it doesn’t shine in for as long.
Inspirational walks
After a few days without actively working on something creative, I often lack verve and find my life monotonous and boring. But then I only need to go for a walk and go around with open eyes. Everywhere you discover something that catches your eye. The whole everyday life is full of surprises and hidden beauty and an hour walk always does wonders.
