After spending a few days in Ticino and with the end of the heatwave in the middle of the week, the mood changed and the first signs of the approaching fall suddenly became apparent.
The week was another typical working week in Basel. I resumed my usual activities that normally characterize my everyday life. However, I enjoyed the little things that accompany it and noticed once again how satisfied I am with this. “Sleep in peace when day is done, that’s what I mean,” says the song Feeling Good by Nina Simone, which I like to listen to while I’m working in my studio. That’s exactly how it feels. Sinking into bed with a book in the evening and ending the day feeling fulfilled and happy.
Time of changes
Change in weather
The first half of the week was still marked by the ongoing heatwave and felt like an extension of the days in Ticino, only without a pool. However, on Thursday, the heat was replaced by a rainy day and cooler temperatures, which allowed for a more relaxed daily routine and, above all, more pleasant nights. After that, everything felt slightly different. The sun was no longer so strong, the mornings were cool and fresh, and the light seemed somehow changed. September was in the air, even though it was still almost two weeks away.

Change in colors
I became particularly aware of this change during my morning jogs. Brown patches everywhere in the summer green. Partly due to the dry weather of the past few weeks. But the cycle of growth, ripening, and decay has definitely passed its zenith. The first rich and warm autumn colors are appearing, such as the deep blue of the sloes, which I really like, or the intense red of the rose hips, shining from afar in the bushes on the riverbank.

Finding a new way
As in my current favorite topic, in terms of art, nuances of autumn are woven into the summer days. Weaving has also dominated my artistic activity this week. I am still finding my way, trying out new things, pursuing ideas that come to mind at the most unlikely moments, and discarding them again when they don’t work as intended. But things are taking shape, and after my hiking vacation, I will be able to tackle specific projects.

Hiking week ahead
My calendar doesn’t have any time for autumn and quieter days yet. The third part of my summer program for this year is coming up. Sunday was another day of train travel. Instead of heading south, this it time the trip is going to the east of Switzerland to spend another week hiking and immersing ourselves in the mountains there at the other end of the country. We enjoyed our week in Müstair last year so much that we decided to repeat the experience. There are still so many tours to discover there, and I’m looking forward to spending a few days in the wild and beautiful mountains of Grisons.
