Everyday highlights
Life is dull without art. I realized this once again this week, which, apart from a great art experience, rippled along unspectacularly.
At some point, even the days in New York turn into everyday life and just pass by. After the festive days of the last few weeks, this week was exactly like that. Between the runs in Central Park alternating with workouts at home, hours in the studio at work, lunch breaks in the kitchen and evenings in one of the restaurants in the neighborhood, everything ran in a familiar rhythm. New York City uptown life.
New York City Winter
What contributed to this was the cold that dominated the week. Temperatures in the lower twenties and a strong wind that blew through and through, no matter how much you put on. So life mainly took place indoors and not many pictures were taken. Somehow I have the feeling that I’ve photographed everything on my path before. In fact, they are always the same at the moment.
But I have made progress with my work. I’m updating my website and, as always at the start of the year, tidying up my computer. And in addition to some administrative work for Basel and organizing the frame order for my exhibition, I also found time to continue working on new art.
Hello White Wagtail
And so another Swiss bird was born, a white wagtail. A bird that always reminds me of spring, where it can often be seen hopping around and bobbing its tail between marsh marigolds in the stream bed. That’s why I chose these flowers as the habitat for this painting and a color palette symbolizing the pebbles of a creek bed in contrast to the spring flowers.
Luna Luna
It was the art that put its own unforgettable stamp on this week. On Friday, I visited the Luna Luna exhibition at the Shed in Hudson Yard. Luna Luna was an art amusement park organized by André Heller in Hamburg in the 80s. The rides, games and attractions were all created by visionary artists of the time, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, David Hockney and Salvador Dalì. Luna Luna was definitely the highlight of the week, the great atmosphere, the colors and the cheerfulness were a welcome contrast to the monotony of the rest of the days and worth leaving the house despite the cold snap.
